We've made it to the last leg of our trip. We are now in Guangzhou and staying at the White Swan. The hotel is located on the historical Shamian Island, overlooking the famed Pearl River. We are actually going on our second day here. The flight from Nanning was only one hour and all the babies seemed to do well. It was still a long day for traveling...our flight didn't arrive until about 10 pm and we still had a 40 minute drive to the hotel.
This Shamian Island is by far my favorite area of the trip, even though it seems to be the most humid. There isn't as much of a language barrier, everyone seems to speak English. The island looks to be geared towards all the Americans that come. The hotel itself is very beautiful. There is a waterfall and fish pond on the main level. That first morning we went down and had the breakfast buffet you'd think we'd died and gone to heaven. The food itself was okay, but getting to eat something other than noodles for breakfast was a treat! Eric went and took care of some paperwork this morning while Nathan, Emily & I ventured out. We found the Swan Room, which is a playroom at the hotel. We also did some window shopping. We ate Subway for lunch.
This evening we met up with the other Holt families. Everyone seems so nice. I'd say there are about 16 families total. There are so many beautiful babies and children. We had a group dinner at an Italian restaurant. Walking back to the hotel we stopped and watched some people playing badminton.
These last few days have been especially hard. We've had a few meltdowns with both kids. Heck, the entire family! Emily still isn't bonding with Eric. She will look at his picture in her photo album we sent before we arrived and will kiss his photo, but she screams if he looks at her. She isn't even going to Nathan like she did in the beginning which in turn is upsetting Nathan. So for now we have a Mamma's Girl.

Glad to see you have made it to the White Swan. I'm sorry to hear about the baby drama, but it is no doubt due to the stress she has been under. It has been an intense week for Miss Emily and all of you. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and praying for you. Looking forward to the post that says your coming HOME! Enjoy the final days of your China adventure.
It takes lots of time; you will be the caregiver, loving and hugging all the time. Carry her with you at all times and she will begin to be open to other family members. Sorry, but in her own time...
Hope you have good experiences and some fun!

Glad to hear you are all safe and sound at the White Swan! It is beautiful and a fun place to be. Good shopping too!
Please do not stress out about the bonding thing. I know it's incredibly hard for Eric and Nathan but hang in there. Our agency, Bethany Christian Services, made it a point to explain that the babies will more often than not, shy away from the men in our family and really, really prepared us for that. They assured us that in time it would all work out. For the families that this happened to, and you see it was pretty common, the girls did, in time, become "daddy's girls". Gracie wanted Ed over me (ouch!) on the first day and they she would go back and forth with us... I guess she was trying to decide which one she wanted! Little did she know she would be stuck with both of us! :)
Hang in there Mary. Once you are home and start establishing your routine and things start becoming familiar, it will all work out.
Safe travels,
Lisa :)
Sorry for the looooong post!
Glad you guys are on the last leg. What a marathon you have had. I am right behind you in travelling so I have no BTDT advice to offer. Just know that we are thinking of all of you.
Hang in there! Things really changed for us after we flew to GZ...that change really threw our daughter off. And then the adjustment coming to the US was tough too, but in the long run your hard work and bonding will pay off and she will come around to daddy & brother!
Glad to hear you are in Guangzhou. The White Swan rocks. That playroom was a huge life saver and bonding time for me:) Their buffet was the best I ever had, especially the omelettes.
You are almost home:)
